Bees finish in 25th place in NAIA Directors' Cup standings

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Savannah College of Art and Design athletics program finished in 25th position in the final 2009-10 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup NAIA standings.

Azusa Pacific University captured the Directors' Cup in the NAIA for the sixth consecutive season with 820 points – three more than second-place Simon Fraser (B.C.) University (817).

SCAD finished with 427.16 points. The Bees, who had nine different teams ranked in their respective NAIA national rankings this past season, moved up from 37th place after the winter season as they scored 209.50 points in four different spring sports. It is the sixth consecutive year that the Bees have finished the season in the top 25.

SCAD earned 61.5 points for its ninth-place finish at nationals in men's golf, 53 points for women's tennis as they finished in ninth place, 50 points for softball advancing to their national championship and 45 points for women's golf finishing in 15th place at nationals.

SCAD was one of eight The Sun Conference institutions that scored in the final standings. Embry-Riddle (Fla.) Aeronautical University finished in fifth place with 696.75 points followed by the University of South Carolina Beaufort in 67th place with 199.00. Northwood (Fla.) University finished in 70th place with 191.00 points followed by St. Thomas (Fla.) University (tie 116th, 107.00), Florida Memorial University (140th, 75.00), Johnson & Wales (Fla.) University (tie 145th, 68.50) and Webber International University (163rd, 43.50).

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 12 sports - six women's and six men's.
