Bees extend win streak to eight games with two wins at Boombah Smash Hit Tournament

SAVANNAH, Ga. –
The Savannah College of Art and Design softball team extended their win streak to eight as they defeated Pikeville College 11-3 (five innings) and the University of Findlay 4-0 Friday (March 5) afternoon at the Paulson Softball Complex as part of the 2010 Boombah Smash Hit Softball Tournament.

The 23rd-ranked Bees improved to 13-5 and will play two more games in the tournament Saturday (March 6). SCAD will face Ohio Valley University at 10 a.m. followed by a noon contest against Armstrong Atlantic State University.

SCAD registered 15 hits in the Pikeville win. Carleigh Shannon and Candle Pfefferle led the hit parade with three apiece while Jackie Rooney, Kristen Curette and Dominica Jordan each smacked two. Shannon, Curette, Mienkina, and Jordan each knocked in two runs.

Kiara Boccia (4-1) allowed just three hits and struck out two in four scoreless innings to pick up the win.

In the nightcap, the Bees took a 1-0 lead in the third. Jessaca Spears led off the inning with a bunt single and then stole second. Pfefferle sacrificed her over to third and Kasey Keown scored her on a sacrifice fly to right.

SCAD doubled their lead when Jordan led off the fifth with a home run to center field. It was her second of the season. The Bees added two insurance runs on a wild pitcher from Findlay starter Carly Borders.

Sam White (8-3) scattered four hits and had five strikeouts to pick up the win.
