SCAD finishes in third at WIU tournament

LAKE WALES, Fla. -
The Savannah College of Art and Design men's golf team finished in third place Monday (Feb. 8) at the Start-2-Finish Invitational.

The No. 2-ranked Bees shot 295 (+11) on the par 71, 7,072-yard Lake Wales Country Club layout to finish the 54-hole event with score of 896 (+44).

No. 3-ranked University of South Carolina Beaufort won the 10-team event as they recorded a final round of 293 (+9) to finish with a 887 (+35). Tournament host Webber International University finished in second place at 890 (+38). USCB's John Pannone earned medalist honors with a final score of 217 (+4).

Mika Becktor was named to the all-tournament team as he fired his second consecutive even-par round of 71 to finish in third place with a 220 (+7) score. Scott Melton also carded a top-20 finish for the Bees as he fired a 74 (+3) to finish at 226 (+13), good for a tie for 18th. Tom Hayes also tallied a 74 (+3) and finished in a tie for 25th place at 228 (+15). Greg Richards shot a 76 (+5) and tied for 33rd place at 230 (+17) while Sean Metcalf had an 85 (+14) and tied for 51st with a score of 238 (+25).

SCAD returns to action next Monday (Feb. 15) when they travel to Casa Grande, Ariz., for the Arizona Intercollegiate.

Reed Publications Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week

Men's Swimming
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
