SCAD finishes in 10th place at Kiawah

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. –
The Savannah College of Art and Design finished in 10th place Sunday (Feb. 7) at the Tusculum/Kiawah Island Women’s Golf Intercollegiate Tournament.

The seventh-ranked Bees carded a final round of 336 on the par 72, 5,876-yard layout on the Cougar Point Golf Club to finish the 36-hole event with a 668 total. SCAD was one of seven ranked teams in the 16-team field.

Daytona State College carded a final round 296 to finish with a tally of 602 to win the eighth annual event. The Falcons, who are making their Kiawah Intercollegiate debut, won by six shots over No. 4-ranked Rollins College, as the Tars finished with 608. Two-time defending Kiawah champion and No. 3-ranked Florida Southern College finished third with 609, including a 295 in the final round.

Belmont Abbey College finished fourth with 616, led by tournament medalist Melissa Siviter, who edged Daytona State’s Mitsuki Katahira, in a scorecard playoff as both finished with a one-over par 145 during the weekend. Siviter’s birdie on the fifth-hole proved to be the deciding score in the playoff.

Andrea Perez was the top SCAD finisher as she came in a tie for 26th place at 161 after an 86 in the final round. Katina Ruest was next in a tie for 36th at 165 after carding an 84. Mary-Michael Burns finished at 169 and in a tie for 48th place after an 84. Lovisa Emanuelsson had the low round of the day for the Bees with an 82 and finished in a tie for 56th with a score of 173. Amelie Mogard fired a 90 and came in 76th place at 185.

SCAD returns to action Feb. 15 when they travel to Casa Grande, Ariz., for the Arizona Intercollegiate.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.
Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
