LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Savannah College of Art and Design men’s golf team is in third place Sunday (Feb. 7) after 36 holes at the Start-2-Finish Invitational.
The No. 2-ranked Bees shot 307 (+23) in the morning round on the par 71, 7,025-yard Lake Wales Country Club layout. SCAD shaved off 13 strokes in the afternoon round to finish with a 294 (+10) and stands at 601 (+33).
No. 3-ranked University of South Carolina Beaufort leads the 13-team field at 594 (+26) while Southeastern University is at 600 (+32). Tournament host Webber International University is in fourth place at 603 (+35) while 18th-ranked St. Thomas (Fla.) University rounds out the top five at 605 (+37).
Mika Becktor had the best finish for the Bees at 149 (+7) as he fired rounds of 78 (+7) and 71 (even).
Scott Melton is at 152 (+10) as he carded scores of 73 (+2) and 79 (+8).
Sean Metcalf tallied rounds of 80 (+9) and 73 (+2) and stands at 153 (+11).
Tom Hayes and
Greg Richards each fired scores of 154 (+12) for the Bees. Hayes put together rounds of 82 (+11) and 72 (+1) while Richards had a 76 (+5) and 78 (+7).
The 54-hole tournament concludes Monday (Feb. 8).
