Bees in third place after 36 holes of Start-2-Finish Invitational

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Savannah College of Art and Design men’s golf team is in third place Sunday (Feb. 7) after 36 holes at the Start-2-Finish Invitational.

The No. 2-ranked Bees shot 307 (+23) in the morning round on the par 71, 7,025-yard Lake Wales Country Club layout. SCAD shaved off 13 strokes in the afternoon round to finish with a 294 (+10) and stands at 601 (+33).

No. 3-ranked University of South Carolina Beaufort leads the 13-team field at 594 (+26) while Southeastern University is at 600 (+32). Tournament host Webber International University is in fourth place at 603 (+35) while 18th-ranked St. Thomas (Fla.) University rounds out the top five at 605 (+37).

Mika Becktor had the best finish for the Bees at 149 (+7) as he fired rounds of 78 (+7) and 71 (even). Scott Melton is at 152 (+10) as he carded scores of 73 (+2) and 79 (+8). Sean Metcalf tallied rounds of 80 (+9) and 73 (+2) and stands at 153 (+11). Tom Hayes and Greg Richards each fired scores of 154 (+12) for the Bees. Hayes put together rounds of 82 (+11) and 72 (+1) while Richards had a 76 (+5) and 78 (+7).

The 54-hole tournament concludes Monday (Feb. 8).

Reed Publications Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
