KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Savannah College of Art and Design stands in seventh place Saturday (Feb. 6) after the opening round of the Tusculum/Kiawah Island Women's Golf Intercollegiate Tournament.
The seventh-ranked Bees carded a round of 332 on the par 72, 5,876-yard layout on the Cougar Point Golf Club. SCAD is one of seven ranked teams in the 16-team field.
Belmont Abbey College posted a team score of 305 and holds a one-shot lead over Daytona State College. Rollins College, which is ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division II, is third with 308 while Florida Southern College, which is ranked third in NCAA Division II and has won the event the last two seasons, posted 314 and is fourth, Saint Leo University (315), which is ranked 19th in NCAA Division II, rounded out the top five.
SCAD freshman
Andrea Perez shot a three-over par 75 in her first collegiate round for the Bees and is in a tie for fourth place.
Katina Ruest is next for the Bees as she shot a round of 80 and is in a tie for 29th place.
Mary-Michael Burns tallied an 85 and is tied for 43rd while
Lovisa Emanuelsson carded an 91 and is a tie for 68th place.
Amelie Mogard is in 77th place after registering a 95.
Defending tournament medalist Joanna Coe of Rollins has the first round lead with an even-par round of 72, two shots ahead of Belmont Abbey's Michele Low and Ashley Mooney of Daytona State, who each fired 74.
The 36-hole tournament concludes Sunday (Feb. 7).
