SCAD defeats Limestone to wrap up regular season

The Savannah College of Art and Design men's swimming team defeated Limestone College 146-114 Saturday (Feb. 6) afternoon at the Timken Center.

SCAD improved to 4-1. Up next for SCAD will be the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships Feb. 17-20 in Charlotte, N.C.

The Bees won nine of the 14 events contested in the meet. Thomas Gibson and Vitali Pushkar-Verbitsky each recorded two individual wins for SCAD. Gibson recorded the sweep in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.44) and the 200 breaststroke (2:12.80) while Pushkar-Verbitsky had meet-best times in the 100 backstroke (54.02) and 100 butterfly (50.77).

Chris Wilson (200 butterfly - 2:00.91), Alex Graudins (500 freestyle - 4:38.86) and Nat Emmett (200 individual medley - 2:01.94) also registered wins for the Bees.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah College of Art and Design men’s swimmer Alex Graudins has been named the Reed Publications SCAD Student-Artist-Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Graudins, a freshman from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, won two of the three individual national titles for the Bees last week at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in St. Peters, Mo.

Graudins claimed the first national title for the Bees as he won the 500-yard freestyle in a university-time of 4:27.44. He lowered his own record by nearly six seconds in the win. Graudins also broke his own university record as he won the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 15:42.28. He nearly had another win for the Bees as he came in second place in the 200 freestyle in a university-record time of 1:39.45.

As a team, the Bees finished in fifth place at the meet.

SAVANNAH, Ga. - XinYu Shang  has been named this week's Reed Publications Intramural Athlete of the Week ending March 7.

Shang, who is the team captain for Team C.S.A. (Chinese Student Association), scored 34 points in the Intramural B Division Championship Tournament Feb. 28. 

 

C.S.A. narrowly defeated Free Agent Two in the semifinal game 47-42 before defeating the Ballers 49-39 for the championship title.
